Respect@Work Reforms

Wednesday 21 August 2024, 12.00pm - 1.00pm

This important virtual workshop will unpack what you need to know as a superannuation industry professional to create a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace under the new Sex Discrimination and Fair Work (Respect at Work) Amendment Act.

The new ‘positive duty’ requirements in the Sex Discrimination Act require a significant shift. All businesses, including superannuation funds, must take proactive steps to eliminate sexual harassment and other unlawful conduct – it’s not just about responding to incidents, but preventing them. Sexual harassment remains pervasive in Australian workplaces. In the last five years, 41% of women and 26% of men have been sexually harassed at work*. Yet, reporting of incidents remains unacceptably low.

This interactive virtual workshop, presented by Dr Emma Fulu, Founder and Co-CEO of The Equality Institute, explores the legal and regulatory obligations under the Respect@Work legislation, with a focus on the new positive duty and how you as a superannuation trustee, senior executive or HR/people & culture professional can create a culture of respect to prevent sex-based harassment.
